7/9/13 Brainerd Lakes Area Fishing Report

Posted by on July 10, 2013

Wow what a week of great weather we have had for the 4th! However, although the weather has been more than what you could ever ask for, the fishing has been up and down. We have been out a lot in the last couple of weeks with very mixed results, one day you do alright and the next day not so good. We’ve been on Gull, Round, North Long, Whitefish, and Mille Lacs, with Mille Lacs by far the most consistent walleye bite. Bass, Northern, and Pan Fish are biting everywhere and have been providing the majority of the action. Fishing in and around shallow weeds with slip bobbers and small leeches have been catching all kinds of mixed bags. Bass are also going strong pitching a Weed Weasel tipped with a small minnow up into the weeds and pumping it back to the boat or using a 3/16 ounce Mushroom Jig head and 6” artificial worm, color hasn’t seemed to matter much. For Walleye action around the Brainerd area Whitefish and North Long have been the best. Lindy Rigging next to the weed lines with chubs, leeches, and crawlers, make sure and have them all along for bait because each day varies as to what they seem to prefer. Mille Lacs has been the best action by far for Walleyes. We have been fishing the northern 1/3 of the lake on the mud flats. Again, have both Crawlers and leeches along on a 6-10 foot Snell, it can vary by the hour out there on what they want to bite on. Sometimes they are on top of the flats, edges, or completely off the edges in that 30+ depth, just go until you mark em, then fish em, and hold on. We are finding more keeper fish showing up out there then before and still lots of those 22-27 inchers. Hope everyone had a fun save 4th and thanks again to all of our men and women who have served and are currently serving this wonderful country!
