Brainerd Area Fishing Report 7/6/12

Posted by on July 7, 2012

Sorry for the delay in fishing reports. We have been on the water non-stop the past couple of weeks. I don’t know if I ever remember being as hot as we were this past week. First off  the walleye bite on Mille Lacs continues to be very strong. We have been taking the majority of our walleye clients over there. Big fish in the 22-27 inch range are the norm and fish under 17 inches are the exception but it is a blast catching that caliber of walleyes. We have also changed it up and fished smallies here and there when the wind lays down. Lots of nice smallies as well. We have been working the north and west end flats on Mille Lacs. Lindy Rigs with leeches, crawlers, and get this, minnows. We had a couple of days were minnows kicked butt which was a first for us on Mille Lacs. Pulling spinners and leadcore are turning on more and more as we progress into mid summer. The smallies are up in the rocks. You can use a plain lindy rig and leech, pitch tube jigs, or cast shallow crank baits to catch them. The walleye bite has been hit and miss on the Brainerd Area Lakes as of late. We are now in prime time bass and pike season. The keys for all three species have been to find wind blown weedlines and fish the outside edge. We have also had great sucess throwing weekless jigs and minnows into the deep cabbage. The big sunnies are also on the bite right now. We have been even catching them on Lindy Rigs and redtail chubs, those are big sunnies. Thank goodnesss we are going to get a little break from this heat. If you would like to book a trip, it’s a great time for multi-spieces right now. Give a call at 218-829-7010.
